The story of Parasol Blanc is intricately intertwined with Laos royalty, culture, religion and entrepreneurialism. 18th century royal guard Phao Vithamaly had a highly entrepreneurial son Tieng Vithamaly. He used the earth from a deserted land to produce bricks to build temples. Over time, the removal of the soil forms a crater. Today, this crater is a beautiful lotus pond, nestled in the middle of Parasol Blanc, protected by the UNESCO Green Zone.
